Android 4.3 update coming to Sony Xperia handsets in August...!!

Sony has confirmed that it'll be updating many of its Xperia handsets to Android 4.3 in August. Writing on its official blog, Sony confirmed the following handsets would be getting updated to the final version of Android Jelly Bean: Sony Xperia Z, Sony Xperia ZL, Sony Xperia ZR, Sony Xperia SP and the Sony Xperia Z Ultra as well as the Sony Xperia Tablet X.

Here's Sony's announcement, confirming the news:

'Yesterday you probably saw Google announce the next version of Jelly Bean (Android 4.3) – we’re already getting stuck in and can confirm we’ll make 4.3 available for: Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia SP and Xperia Z Ultra…

'We’re also looking at uplifting some of our other devices running 4.1 direct to 4.3 – we’ll share more info / deets / timings when we can, so be sure to follow @SonyMobileNews for all the latest.'

Sony also issued an apology for its slow rollout of Android 4.1 but promised it would up its game with Android 4.3 and beyond. The rollout of Android 4.3 will be a phased process that will vary according to where you are and what network you are on, Sony added. 

Google announced Android 4.3 Jelly Bean at a private event in San Francisco alongside its new Nexus 7 tablet yesterday evening. The search giant also confirmed its Apple TV-like Chromecast TV dongle. Most of Android 4.3's updates and tweaks are targeted at the back end but there are a few additions that should really spice things up in the Android kingdom, such as:

• The ability to restrict access to certain apps/content for users
• OpenGL ES capability for enhanced gaming
• Support for low-power Bluetooth devices
• New wallpapers

Android 4.3 update has already started rolling out to those using the Nexus 4, old Nexus 7, Nexus 10 and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. It will be hitting Google Editions of the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4 in the next couple of weeks.
